August 27 01:25 2022

Pizza is the ultimate crowd pleaser. Whether homemade or store-bought, offering pizza is guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face. However, homemade pizza remains far superior to the takeout option. Perhaps the sense of accomplishment you get when presenting a pizza you had a hand in creating from the beginning plays a role here.

With the ability to make any pizza you like, why not try expanding your borders by attempting to create some vegan pizzas? Here are a few vegan pizza recipes to help you dip your toes.

What Do You Need?

Making a pizza means firing up your oven. The best option, in this case, is a wood-fired pizza oven. This oven relies on slow cooking to produce savoury and tasty pizzas with outwardly crispy and inwardly fluffy crusts.

Next, you need some dough for the crusts. To make a good dough, you need:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour.
  • 1 cup warm water.
  • Fast-acting yeast.
  • 1 teaspoon salt.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil.
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder.

Method:

  1. Stir the yeast and ½ tablespoon sugar into warm water until it dissolves. Set aside for 7 to 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, sugar and garlic powder to a large bowl and whisk to combine. Next, add the olive oil and the activated yeast. Then, mix until all the ingredients combine to form a dough. Adding one or two tablespoons of flour helps to rectify dough that is too sticky.
  3. Lightly dust the bowl with flour, form the dough into a ball and place it back in the bowl. Completely cover the bowl with a damp hand towel for about 30 minutes or until the dough doubles in size.
  4. Take some parchment paper (about the size of your pan) and place it over your work area. Dust the parchment with flour so you can easily spread your dough. (Use a wet knife to cut the dough in half. This recipe produces two 10-inch pizzas).
  5. Spread the dough (using your hands) across the parchment paper into a round pizza shape to your preferred thickness. But remember that the dough rises while cooking.
  6. Lightly brush some olive oil and sprinkle Italian herbs and salt on the crust to season it.

With the dough ready, you can add ingredients of your choice to create lovely vegan pizzas. For example:

Margherita Pizza.

You’ll need:

  • Marinara sauce.
  • Vegan mozzarella cheese.
  • ½ cup fresh basil.
  • Some Italian seasoning. (optional).

Method

  1. Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the prepared dough, then place slices of the cheese.
  2. Carefully use a paddle or pan to slide the pizza into the oven.
  3. Cook for 7 to 10 minutes, but keep a close eye on the pizza as it can cook very fast.
  4. Spread the basil immediately after removing the pizza from the oven.

You can also try this or this pizza if you feel more adventurous.

Finally, remember that you must also have the right equipment to make a good pizza. So consider elevating your pizza game by purchasing a wood-fired pizza oven.
