Seventy-five years of India’s independence in the post-colonial era is truly a milestone worthy of celebration as well as reflection. On this occasion, the Delhi Public School Ghaziabad Society (DPSGS) organised a grand musical soiree, “India@75: Dholavira to Narendra Modi,” at Siri fort Auditorium, New Delhi, recently.

Students from DPSG schools across three states, on behalf of 30 crore school students of the country, showcased the story of India from Indus Valley Civilization to the present through this magnificent project of art, comprising vocal music, dance, theatre, martial art, and multimedia projection by professionals. The programme depicted the diversity of culture and richness of Indian heritage and history through the ages and projected the achievements of modern India.

The event was supported by the Ministry of Culture, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. Union Minister for Textile, Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal and Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Culture, were the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour at the valedictory and opening session, respectively. Parliamentarians, Heads of Foreign Missions based in India, Corporates, and Leaders from all walks of life, along with school students, comprised the audience.

An art exhibition depicting the glorious journey of India through the eyes of its children was also put up on occasion. Leading schools of Delhi NCR participated in the exhibition.

In his address, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Culture, said, “From times immemorial, India has been the mother of democracy. If we look back in history, we have been much ahead of time than many other countries. In 2047, when the nation shall be celebrating its 100 years of Independence, the students sitting in the audience and the youth of the country shall play an instrumental role in its progress and development”.

Speaking on occasion, Mr Om Pathak, Chairman, Delhi Public School Ghaziabad Society and SelaQui International School, said, “The purpose of this program by school students is to inspire the youth of the country and create awareness of how India is poised to become the Vishwa Guru and how the nation is giving a new direction and a new vision to the entire globe”. Mr Pathak emphasised that as a nation, we need to look back at our history, acknowledge the sacrifices of the unsung heroes and lead India to the ‘Amrit Kaal era’- the next 25 years that shall be the most promising for its growth.Delighted to address a vibrant auditorium full of young students, the representatives of New India, Union Minister for Textile, Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, said, “The 75 years of India’s freedom struggle have helped create a strong foundation for its progress. Clearly, the rich heritage that we have inherited has remained with us and shall help us in the next 25 years as we prepare to celebrate India on its 100 years of Independence. What we have inherited should help us think differently — to be bold in our vision and work towards the big, hairy, audacious goals. As truly advocated by our PM Modi, each one of us needs to take five pledges to fulfil the dreams of our freedom fighters for India in 2047 – having developed India, removing any sign of servility, pride in heritage, unity & fulfilling our duties.”

DPSG schools in Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad and Dehradun organised week-long celebrations under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, mobilising and sensitizing thousands of people from the community and honouring 100+ unsung heroes for their selfless contribution towards nation building. The celebrations included robust Har Ghar Tiranga marches, Nukkad Nataks, inter-school competitions, debates, exhibitions, art shows, poetry, folk dance, etc. This musical soiree marked the grand finale of the week-long celebrations.
