Will India or England Take Lead in Second Test?

November 16
14:36 2016

engNew Delhi, Wednesday, November 16 – England did not get to witness the kind of outcome they waited against the Men in Blue in Rajkot Test regardless of showing good batting skills. In 1st and 2nd innings of England, four centuries were hit. From India’s side, a couple of tons were struck too.

All in all, the first Test was wonderful to watch as fans enjoyed the way match swung to and fro in favour of both sides for some span of time. There is no doubt that England had the edge in the entire game but credit will also be given to Indian players who ensured the game isn’t a lost. English players wanted to see themselves on the winning side as efforts were poured from both bowlers and batsmen to do the job. But this is the real joy of watching cricket, especially Test.

What a team might have thought may not be observed as the opponents are equally keen to stay on track to taste success. At Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam on Thursday, November 17, second Test is slated to take place. Virat Kohli always tries to do his bit and his role in taking the match to a draw 1st Test was big as well. Expectations are always high from him for the reason that he being capable of living up to hopes. The best thing about this dynamic cricketer is that he himself wants to see his game improving match after match.

This is the reason why people get to see something amazing from him whenever this 28-year-old Test skipper of India arrives on the crease. Hopes will surge from Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Mishra, Mohammed Shami, Karun Nair, Hardik Pandya, Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha, Ishant Sharma, Murali Vijay, Jayant Yadav and Umesh Yadav.  Gautam Gambhir and Ajinkya Rahane would try to do well this time and do substantial contribution. It will be crucial to notice whether someone other is given chance to play in their place or the team will remain unchanged.

England Test squad will once again try to keep India under pressure in Alastair Cook’s captaincy. Gary Ballance, Moeen Ali, Zafar Ansari, Jonny Bairstow, Jake Ball, Gareth Batty, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Ben Duckett, Steven Finn, Haseeb Hameed, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes are likely to shine. Those in extra in opening Test will expect to see their names in the Playing XI. Even if they do not, there should be no point to worry.

The 2nd Test match is a day away. It is made sure that the entire preparations are done to host the match without any trouble. Since the game is to begin on a working day, the crowd may not be huge but scenario is supposed to change during the weekend. As a matter of fact, eyes will be on Indian spinners and fast bowlers. Even though they struggled to get wickets on time in the previous match, they can certainly introduce a big difference in the contest by showing England players a way back to the pavilion.

Positivity of the dressing room has also got to do a lot with players’ performance. Despite Kohli being aggressive, he imparts his role as a captain near to perfect, doing his bit and inspiring fellow teammates to do their job. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that his play shone better being captain when most of the players feel the real stress. England batsmen did well in the opening Test and if same sort of play continues further, India may be defeated, no wonder. Cook’s men would want to end their tour to India with victories in the remaining Tests but it is not going to be easy at all as Indian players having the potential and determination to do well in the home conditions.

But one point is clear that great efforts will be required to let the rivals bear the brunt. Stuart Broad could not make his 100th Test memorable. England captain tried seven bowling options in India’s second innings, clearing the doubt that all attention is on getting wickets with the help of part-timers. Although Indian batsmen on the crease played the ball by such bowlers well but things might have changed had a few wickets were taken on time. Winning the toss is not in anybody’s hand but it will be crucial as similar to any other match.

This will let one of the skippers to make a choice either to bat or field first. England won it in the previous game, making best use of it. Bowling lineup of India tried their level best to put a ceiling on England’s pace of getting runs in pocket but struggled. Now, with objective to compel visitors feel the heat and get as much as wickets possible, it will be imperative to note what surprises the pitch of Vishakhapatnam hide.

Virat Kohli is to lead a side once again that has the ability to do the tasks that are difficult. There is no doubt that England did excellent in the first match of the tour. If they get to win the remaining Tests of their tour to India, certainly there will be some jump in the ICC Test rankings. The remarkable victories of the past can be a huge source of inspiration for themselves. India did well in the previous series. Being a side that has some great fielders, bowlers and batsmen, the Men In Blue made mistakes of dropping catches etc.

This is the pressure of cricket which increases when a team starts doing good from the other end. Test matches are the real cricket. Not everybody knows the art of how to play it excellently. Indian team would need to perform as a unit similar to what they did earlier. Each game comes up will some lessons. Hope a few is learnt by Kohli and Company. The team is aware what kind of play can England put forward. So focus will be on not giving them the space to go for hitting hundreds and fifties.
