On the evening of December 2, guided by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and Chengdu Music Film and Television Industry Development Leading Group, hosted by Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcast-TV and Tourism and Chengdu Music and Film Industry Promotion Office, and undertaken by Chengdu Business Daily, Sichuan Shangmei Cultural Promotion Company Ltd. and Chengdu Orchestra, the Closing Performance of the 26th “Autumn in Chengdu” International Music Season and the Fourth Golden Hibiscus Music Competition Award Ceremony were held in Chengdu City Concert Hall. Administrators, scholars from international and domestic music schools and experts of musical culture, as well as the winners of the Golden Hibiscus Music Competition, attended the award ceremony.
A total of 58 gold, silver and bronze awards and honorable mentions in the three categories of vocals (bel canto, Chinese folk music and pop), piano and guzheng were announced, highlighting the charisma of the winners.
Five categories of awards announced accentuating Chengdu’s reputation as an international city of music
On October 2, 2012, the Fourth Golden Hibiscus Music Competition officially opened for registration. Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition attracted more than 2,000 contestants from Chinese professional music schools, such as the Central Conservatory of Music and the China Conservatory of Music, as well as from the Manhattan School of Music, the Juilliard School and the Royal College of Music, and 142 contestants entered the quarter-final. In terms of the number of participants, the quality of works, the level of coverage of players, and the scale of international participation, the competition has been a benchmark for professional music events in China, opening a new chapter in Chengdu’s efforts to build the “international city of music”.
According to the schedule, from November 29 to December 2, the competition held a total of 13 rounds of quarter-final and final events in five categories of vocals (bel canto, Chinese folk and pop), piano and guzheng. More than e than 30 renowned experts and professors from music schools, including Liao Changyong, He Zhanhao, Dan Zhaoyi, and Lan Tianyang, formed a professional judging panel. At the Closing Performance of the 26th “Autumn in Chengdu” International Music Season and the Fourth Golden Hibiscus Music Competition Award Ceremony, 58 awards in five categories were announced. Zhang Ronghao, Luo Yudan, Li Jinhua, Xu Linlin, and Shen Zhouhui won gold medals in pop music, vocals (bel canto), vocals (Chinese folk music), guzheng, and piano respectively.

It not only provides a stage for us to express ourselves, but also paves the way for our personal growth and career planning.”
Four years of development to facilitate the construction of a prestigious international cultural city
The Golden Hibiscus Music Competition was launched in 2017 as part of the Chengdu Municipal Government’s efforts to discover music talents, encourage musical creativity and create an influential international music event in China. Since its inception, the competition has been successfully held for four years, attracting nearly 6,000 contestants from countries and regions such as the U.S., Russia, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao. Nearly 100 outstanding talents and bands, such as Chen Honglu, Yao Jialin, Liu Bangyi, Li Weihao, Chen Yuqiu, Cheap Bones, and the Levi, emerged from the competition, accompanied by approximately 100 original and fine pieces such as That Winter, BAE BAE 9, Goodnight Lugu Lake, and Wild Grass.
Upholding the concept of “building a stage for talents, gathering momentum for culture, empowering the industry, and revitalizing the city”, this year’s Golden Hibiscus Music Competition is characterized by the inclusion of experts and attraction of talents in a bid to continuously optimize the competition system and judging lineup. At the same time, the competition is open to key music colleges and universities and major music labels at home and abroad, which significantly enhances the internationalization and professionalism of the contestants. With the participation of renowned experts and professors from music schools such as Liao Changyong, He Zhanhao, Dan Zhaoyi and Lan Tianyang, the event has established its credibility in all aspects, further contributing to the construction of an international city of music and energizing the construction of an international cultural city.
It is reported that the Golden Hibiscus Music Competition will be followed by six lectures, in which renowned experts, professors and artists will be invited to share their artistic insights with the contestants and students from art colleges and universities in Chengdu. The competition gives full play to the vital role of professional music events in nurturing music professionals and promoting the development of Chengdu’s music industry and the prosperity of the musical culture market, and further refines Chengdu’s calling card as the “international city of music”.
